NavTrain across Europe on METRANS rail locomotives

June 15, 2023

Following ČD Cargo, another major operator, METRANS Rail, has started using the NavTrain navigation system from Betrian Group. METRANS Rail transports containers and other cargo from European ports to terminals in the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, and Hungary. It also holds a license for passenger rail transport.

“We’re pleased that our product has appealed to another operator. It confirms that NavTrain meets the requirements for modernizing train drivers’ workstations,” says Petr Sec of Betrian Group. He notes that NavTrain significantly simplifies the process of providing essential information to drivers, such as data on current permitted speeds, signals, and crossings. “NavTrain helps prevent human errors and immediately alerts the driver if any occur,” adds Petr Sec about the application, which drivers use on a tablet at their locomotive workstation.

“Our drivers had the opportunity to test NavTrain during their work, and they praised its accuracy in displaying real-time information. We therefore proceeded to sign a contract, as we want to continue prioritizing maximum safety on the railway. After implementing ETCS on most of our locomotives, this is another element enhancing railway safety,” said METRANS Rail Managing Director Martin Hořínek.

This operator dispatches around 200 complete trains per week, with destinations often including Rotterdam, Hamburg, Gdańsk, and Rijeka. “Currently, NavTrain doesn’t offer detailed track information outside the Czech Republic, but this collaboration is expected to further develop NavTrain’s capabilities for routes in Germany and Austria,” noted Petr Sec.

Betrian Group

Since 2018, in addition to hardware and software development and process digitization, Betrian Group has been focusing on the railway sector. It develops the NavSuite ecosystem designed to optimize the planning, supervision, and management of rail transport. It streamlines complex logistical processes, from scheduling commodity transport to managing locomotive maintenance, shift planning for train drivers, and providing real-time navigation support.
